Highly recommend this restaurant if you're around Washington square park . Always have a great meal here. Also a great place to come with a friend. Very relaxing , cozy spot where the music doesn't overshadow the experience. I had the lamb burger for lunch. Portion was perfect. Thoroughly enjoyed the dessert of apricot and apple crumble. Excellent service and food. A++++
Service was top notch. Staying at the attached hotel for a few shows for a weekend. Had breakfast twice. Both times the food was amazing in a cozy bistro style ambiance. The manager and serving. Staff were delightful. Was planning to breakfast again Monday before leaving and the manager let us know they aren't open Mondays and gave us 3 amazing alternatives to try.
Great old school restaurant. Music NOT screaming, but very much in the background. Great service and great food. I had the duck and it was perfect. Test, texture, time to bring. Slightly on the expensive side... but it IS duck. The key here is the low-key atmosphere. No blaring TVs. No blaring patrons. Not fratboy or studenty in the least. Just right for groups with uncertain numbers.
Affordable and delicious brunch spot right next to Washington Square Park! Had the $25 brunch special, which was an entree with a coffee/tea and brunch drink. The Brunch Tasting entree consisted of roasted veggies, eggs, chicken sausage, and pumpkin pecan pancakes, which were the highlight of the meal. Very impressed by this place and quite surprised it's so empty on an early Saturday afternoon - definitely check this place out.
Inside of a dark, provocatively decorated restaurant reminiscent of a Gilded Age speakeasy, is North Square. The quail appetizer with butternut squash, swiss chard, and balsalmic. The star was the butternut squash, which was soft and glutinous. The vegetables were also pretty good with the balsalmic, but they tasted like they were just blanched--more definitely could've been done, like sauteeing in some herbed butter. Sirloin w Szechuan peppercorn, wasabi mashed potatoes, and Chinese broccoli (gai lan). Concept over Execution. The floral flavor of the peppercorn and hoisin reduction pairs really well with the sirloin. Wasabi and potato also wen well together. The dish felt a bit disjointed, which makes sense because they threw two flavors from different East Asian cultures onto one plate. The potatoes would've done better paired with chili oil, cumin, or simply garlic. Bread pudding w vanilla ice cream and an intense cranberry sauce. The nuts in the bread pudding was not my style, but flavor overall was pretty good. Not really worth getting it again, though.
Sooo good. Butternut squash fries with lemon Parmesan sauce. So good. We tried a little bit if everything, beautiful food and delicate flavors. Service was also excellent!
Pleasantly surprised that the random hotel I booked had a nice restaurant so I didn't have to brave the intense rain to get some food after a long day. The ambiance: 4.5/5 The service: 4/5 The burger: 3.5/5 Best parts of the burger: -amazing fries -nice pickled onions -toasty bun However, even though the meat had a nice crispy sear to it and it was cooked to medium, the meat itself was chewy and flavorless
Had a great time visiting the North Square bar while in town. I didn't get a chance to try the food this trip, but would love to in the future! The bar is cozy and quaint, in a great location nestled in the Washington Square Hotel, the cocktails are tasty, and my bartender (shout out David!) was so sweet! I had a Manhattan and Cranberry Hot Toddy, both delicious! Although seasonal, the CHT was a can't miss option. Very unique. The prices aren't bad either. It seems like a locals spot, which are always the best kind. Can't wait to come back here and try the food and other drinks!
After a nearby park event, stopped in here for brunch on a Saturday afternoon. Considering the crowds outside, was surprised this place didn't have more business, especially with the brunch deals. For ($25), you get a choice of entree, along with coffee and a brunch drink. Opted for the herb omelette, which had cheese and spinach inside. Well made eggs, actually fluffy overall with a good balance in the fillings. The side salad had a refreshing vinaigrette on top. The brunch drink was the mimosa - simple and paired well alongside the meal. Service is pleasant and they are very accommodating for groups. Outside seating is also available on the nicer days.
